Delivering on its commitment to address the plastic waste crisis, Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX) and SM Cares, in partnership with Nestlé Philippines, bring the Plastic Waste Collection initiative to the cities of Cebu and Davao. Starting today, mall-goers from the busiest cities of Visayas and Mindanao are able to contribute to the planet by dropping off clean and dry plastic waste at SM CIty Davao and SM City Cebu.
The two newest locations are the ninth and tenth Plastic Waste Collection stations since its launch earlier in the year. Together, PCX and SM Cares have collected over 9,000kg of plastic waste, with the hopes to expand to even more locations in the coming new year. Plastics collected from the drop-off points are sent to vetted processing partners that either upcycle, recycle or co-process these as an alternative source for fuel for producing cement. PCX only accredits processing partners that uphold the best industry practices aligned with the UN Environment Programme, ensuring that no plastic is leaked into the environment.
“We started off the year launching our first Plastic Waste Collection station at SM Megamall and today, we close the year with ten. We’re incredibly thankful for the partnership with SM Cares, the support from Nestlé Philippines and Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, and to all the mall-goers from the nearby communities who continue to do good for the planet. Together, we can work towards a world that is free from plastic waste,” voiced PCX Impact Director Ilusion Farias.
From today, Cebuanos can head over to the SM City Cebu Parking Area near V-Hire Terminal, while Davaoeños can drop off their plastic waste in front of Main Mall Entrance 4 at SM City Davao. All plastics dropped off must be empty, clean and dry. Drop-off points are open daily from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.
