EPR COMPLIANCE
EPR EXPLAINED
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy approach in which a producer’s responsibility for a product is extended to the post-consumer stage of a product’s life cycle. Responsibility can be met in the form of direct or indirect support for the proper collection and processing of plastic waste.
EPR regulation is growing around the world so PCX has positioned both its credits as well as it's PRO services for compliance. See how we can help below.
HOW WE HELP
PCX manages your EPR compliance through programs designed to include at least 12 strategies (6 upstream and 6 downstream) and guides our Obliged Enterprise partners in the implementation of applicable solutions.
UPSTREAM MEASURES
Inclusion of recycled content or recycled materials in a product
Adoption of appropriate refilling system for retailers
Viable
reduction rates plan
Information, Education, & Communication
Labeling of packaging Materials
Adoption of reusable products, or redesign of products to improve reusability, recyclability, or retrievability
DOWNSTREAM MEASURES
Reduction of plastic waste through diversion into value chains or value adding products
Clean-up of post consumer plastic waste leaked to the environment
Partnership with local governments, communities, and informal waste sectors
Transportation of recovered waste to appropriate composting, recycling, or other diversion, processing or disposal sites
Waste recovery redemption, buy-back, offsetting or any method that ensures high retrievability, recyclability, and resource recovery
Establishment of commercial or industrial scale recycling, composting, thermal treatment, and other waste diversion or disposal facilities
It is important to understand that Plastic Credits (Offsetting) are not intended to be the topmost preference in the hierarchy of solution sets towards a circular economy. Any plastic that can be safely removed from the supply chain should be removed. Any plastic that can be reused or recycled should be labeled and directed to those use cases. And any plastics that cannot yet be removed from the supply chain should be offset to ensure that it does not pollute the planet and wind up in nature.
It is essential for sustainability partners (or obliged enterprises in the case of EPR) to demonstrate their long-term commitment to the Plastic Pollution Reduction.
