Update on the Serial Number (SN) Assignment in the Plastic Pollution Reduction Standard (PPRS) Version 8
Guidance Note 05
07 November 2024
The Plastic Pollution Reduction Standard (PPRS) version 8, which came into effect on June 5, 2024, defines the syntax for assigning serial numbers to plastic credits issued under this version.
To align the syntax detailed in version 8 with the previous syntax and ensure consistency and traceability across all PPRS versions, the processor code was added to the serial number and a group serial number has been implemented. The updated syntax will be as follows (read from left to right, row by row):
PPRS + Version No.

PPRS Registration Date

Aggregation Type

Processing Type

Impact Verifier

Total Tonnage in Batch (n)
Project Country

Project VVB

Aggregator/Collector Code

Processor Code

Date of Impact Verification

Date of Generation of SN
Project Code

Clean-up Type

Aggregation End Date

Processing End Date

Sequence in Batch (1, 2, ..., n)
The elements of the updated syntax are defined as follows:
Syntax Identifier | Identifier Description |
---|---|
PPRS + Version No. | The standard and version to which the project was initially registered |
Project Country | A three-letter code (alpha-3) for the project location following ISO 3166 |
Project Code | A unique six-character alphanumeric code assigned by PCX Solutions |
PPRS Registration Date | DDMMYY date format of the Project Registration Date |
Project VVB | A unique VVB ID assigned by PCX Solutions |
Clean-up Type | Numeric identifier for different clean-up types ranging from 01 to 06 assigned by PCX Solutions |
Aggregation Type | Alphabetic identifier for different aggregation types assigned by PCX Solutions |
Aggregator/Collector Code | A unique aggregator/collector ID assigned by PCX Solutions |
Aggregation End Date | DDMMYY date format of the aggregation end date as indicated in the Certificate of Collection |
Processing Type | Alphabetic identifier for different processing types assigned by PCX Solutions |
Processor Code | A unique processor ID assigned by PCX Solutions |
Processing End Date | DDMMYY date format of the processing end date as indicated in the Certificate of Processing |
Impact Verifier | A unique VVB ID for the Impact Verifier assigned by PCX Solutions |
Date of Impact Verification | DDMMYY date format of the impact verification as indicated in the verification report |
Sequence in Batch (1, 2, ..., n) | The numeric indicator of each metric ton |
Total Tonnage in Batch (n) | Total number of plastic credits |
Date of Generation of SN | DDMMYY date format of the SN generation |
Sample Serial Number:
PPRS6-ARG-CABAR09-040523-CUPPH-03-COM-JOM01-010524-UPC-CAB01-010724-CUPPH-150724-1-100-160724
Issued plastic credits exceeding 1 MT are uploaded as a batch to the PPRS registry. In such cases, a batch serial number will appear in the registry. The syntax for the batch serial number follows the same structure as for the individual plastic credit serial numbers within the batch, except for the "Sequence in Batch" section. Here, instead of assigning an individual numerical indicator to each plastic credit, a group indicator represents the batch of credits in the format [a- b], where "a" is the numerical indicator of the first plastic credit assigned, and “b” is the numerical indicator of the last plastic credit assigned for the specified volume ordered.

Sample Group Serial Number:

PPRS6-ARG-CABAR09-040523-CUPPH-03-COM-JOM01-010524-UPC-CAB01-010724-CUPPH-150724-[1-100]-100-160724
This updated syntax is effective only for credits issued after 09 September 2024 .

Previously issued serial numbers will remain unchanged. Changes to the serial number syntax may occur, and if so, sufficient communication through the PPRS Registry will be ensured.
